it's a working stiff / asshole kind of tie, but wearing it loose says "i'm hip to counter-culture ideologies and laid-back attitudes. i'm kind of cool and want to be perceived as hip, although i'm unable to escape my stale job and mundane lifestyle, and i drink a little too much." ties are good for that.
